I know, I know.

I am a liar. Post some pictures? Not today. Really, this journal is just becoming a place for me to list excuses as to why I can never properly update.

What’s my excuse today? I have nothing legitimate to update with! All my projects are sitting in the same sad state they were in last time I wrote – which is in a pile on the floor of my sewing room, which I haven’t even entered for weeks. Eeek! A number of things have conspired to create this unfortunate state of things. One: I’ve been sick. Urgh. This is also partly why I haven’t taken any photos of my 18th century underthings yet; no one wants to see me looking like that. Reason two is that I’ve been redecorating – scratch that; what I’ve been doing is decorating, since you can’t redecorate something that hasn’t been touched to begin with. It’s been, what, ten months since I moved to the new place and I put up my first set of curtains last weekend – how’s that for ineptitude?! It’s a very slow process for me, but right now my apartment looks like a disaster zone, so I haven’t had anywhere to take photos. Reason number three: I’ve just been so danged busy. My day job is rough, particularly in the winter, so I find myself a lot of the time doing nothing but going to work and sleeping during the work week. That only leaves weekends for me to get things done, and although you may think two whole days is plenty of time to do stuff, it’s a different story when you literally can’t do anything during the week. Since we’re moving into spring right now, I’m praying that this will get better soon, but of course there’s another caveat.

I’ve just been tapped to do another play starting in march – the Three Musketeers!! PEEEERIOOOD COOOOSTUUUMIING!! It’s going to be awesome and amazing, if I survive. So now I’ve got the 17th century buzz, and to be honest, my 18th century clothes don’t even interest me right now. Lol. Anywho, I’ll be starting production on that probably this week, which means all other projects are officially on hold. But in the meantime, I’ll have plenty of pictures and posts to make about that. I already have a Pinterest page up, on which I’ve been gathering inspiration. When I asked the director how he felt about historical accuracy, he said, “just put the girls in pretty princess dresses and the guys with bug feathered hats and ill be happy.” I’m considering that as leave to take complete artistic license. Wheeee!!

yep. another three months!

time gets away from me so quickly.  November vanished in a heartbeat due to NaNoWriMo (which, by the way, I won for the first time in seven years!)  the past two months, I’ve been working on a show at my local theater guild, which I’ve been doing costume design for.  that’s pretty much where all of my free time has gone lately.

you may notice the look of my site has changed a bit.  the title has changed as well.  I know that “shit I make” pretty accurately describes my entire creative process, but it didn’t seem very people-friendly.  so now we have “sewing before machines”.  this is mean to describe the things I’m interested in sewing, not the actual method I use, since I do a lot of anachronistic machine sewing.  anyway I like it.

this small update is to say that, and also that I haven’t given up on my set of stays.  actually, I hadn’t touched them once between the last post I made and a week ago, but I’ve made up a lot of ground since then!  I’ll have some pictures in the next post.
